Position Title: Hotline Counselor
Reporting to: Lead Counselor
Location: Kampala, Uganda
Project Description:
The Health Communication Partnership (HCP) project of the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health, Centre for Communication Programs (JHU/CCP) with funding from USAID, is providing technical assistance to Communication for Development Foundation Uganda (CDFU) and other partners'to set up and operate a toll-free hotline to provide telephone counseling in health related areas including, alcohol and substance abuse.
Job Summary:
The hotline counselor will provide telephone counseling, information and referrals to callers on gender based violence, sexual reproductive health as well as alcohol and substance abuse. The counselor will take lead in training and mentoring other telephone counselors on alcohol counseling, referrals and information. This includes; developing guidelines for telephone counseling and conducting training and debriefing sessions on alcohol counseling, referral and information. The counselor will build relationships with alcohol rehabilitation centers and other service centers providing alcohol services and information in Uganda.
Qualifications and Experience: Minimum of a bachelor's degree in counseling. A minimum of 3 years experience in face-to-face or telephone counseling for alcohol and substance abuse. Skills: High level of written and verbal communication, interpersonal and organizational skills, including leadership, managerial and problem solving skills. Strong internet and computer skills, listening and fluency in one or more Ugandan languages.
