The School of Law at Birkbeck University offers the following postgraduate funding opportunities:

Eligible courses

Eligibility criteria

  • School of Law Postgraduate Fee Awards may be awarded by the College on the recommendation of the School’s Research Committee to candidates with an outstanding academic record who shows high potential for strong performance on one of the School’s Master’s programmes.
  • Awards may be made for full-time or part-time study and to Home, EU students or International students. Where an award is made to an international student the student will be liable for the balance of their fees for the duration of their programme of study.
  • Candidates will be expected to fulfil similar academic criteria to those demanded by external funding bodies. They will normally possess at least an upper second class honours degree or equivalent and not normally have previously completed a Postgraduate Taught Programme.
  • The competition is open to new students only.

What do these studentships offer?

  • The awards will cover the cost of fees only at the home/EU rate. Where an award is made to an international student, the student will be liable for the balance of their fees for the duration of their programme of study.
  • There is no maintenance award.

How to apply

Deadline for applications

  • The deadline for applications is Thursday 30th June 2016.

  • Awards are made for a maximum of one year for full-time students and two years for part-time students.
  • The College may discontinue the award if the student’s progress is not confirmed or their attendance is not satisfactory.

The Patrick McAuslan Scholarship

This scholarship applies to the intensive LLM in International Economic Law (Justice and Development pathway) only.

 

Eligible Course

Eligibility Criteria

  • You have successfully applied for the LLM International Economic Law (intensive – Justice and Development pathway; there is a separate application process for the LLM at the link above). You need to have received at least a conditional offer for this LLM programme, and
  • You are from one of the following East African countries: Burundi, Comoros, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Rwanda, Somalia, Somaliland, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.
  • The competition is open to new students only.

What does the scholarship offer?

  • The scholarship covers tuition fees of £14,775 for one full-time international student of the LLM in International Economic Law (Intensive – Justice and Development pathway). Additionally it includes a monthly contribution towards living costs in London for the duration of the course from March to July (Approx. £ 5000). The total value of the award is worth GBP 20,000.
