Job Description
The AIDS Support Organization (TASO Uganda), was founded to contribute to the process of preventing HIV infection, restoring hope and improving the quality of Life of persons, families and communities affected by HIV infection and disease. TASO requires the services of dedicated, competent, innovative and results oriented persons for employment on a contract basis for the post below;

Job Title: DHSS Pharmacy Technician
Reports To: DHSS Focal Person

Main Purpose of the Job
To take charge of pharmaceutical services at the District health facilities and ensure that the service provision complies to set pharmaceutical procedures, regulations and standards
Key Outputs
1. Public Health Facility clients with drugs as prescribed provided
2. Pharmaceutical needs for PHFs identified, planned and forecasted
3. Public Health Facility Staff supervised and supported
4. Clinical programs attended to
5. Drug protocols in pharmacy observed
6. Drug stores and inventory managed and controlled
7. Periodic reports prepared and submitted
8. District Health System strengthened
Key Duties and Responsibilities
1. Dispense prescribed drugs to Public facility clients and support TASO Clients and Staff
2. Follow established TASO policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards
3. Acurately and efficiently prepare presciption orders
4. Verify prescription information and dosage
5. Monitor patient medication compliance and over usage patterns
6. Provide the list of drugs available to prescribers
7. Manage drugs availability at the centre
8. Dispense prescribed drugs to Public Health Facility Clients and support TASO Clients too
9. Verify prescription information and dosage
10. Monitor medicine over usage patterns
11. Organize medications for Nurse Dispenser to dispense by reading medication orders and prescriptions; preparing labels; calculating quantities; assembling intravenous solutions and other pharmaceutical therapies.
12. Read clients’ charts and prepare the appropriate medication
13. Answer client questions and troubleshoot/resolve them promptly
14. Assist clients with their drug therapy and pharmacy care issues
15. Promote clients’ drug compliance
16. Plan and forecast medical supplies and drugs
17. Qualify and initiate pharmaceutical procurement
18. Conduct departmental drug budgeting and planning
19. Provide appropriate pharmaceutical information
20. Provide technical guidance and training to dispensers
21. Appraise and support Public Health Facility Pharmacy Staff
22. Distribute roles to expert clients supporting pre packaging
23. Conduct CME to provide up to date information on pharmaceutical products.
24. Pre-pack drugs for Public Health Facility clients and support the TASO Clients too
25. Counsel staff and 20 clients per clinic day on drug interactions
26. Conduct one monthly health talk at service points
27. Dispense presented drugs to clients and staff
28. Collect and document information on adverse drug reactions
29. Counsel clients and staff on drug interactions, side effects, dosage, indications and contraindications
30. Protect clients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols
31. Maintain pharmacy inventory by checking pharmaceutical stock to determine inventory level.
32. Maintain pharmacy inventory by anticipating needed medications and supplies
33. Maintain pharmacy inventory by placing and expediting orders
34. Maintain pharmacy inventory by verifying receipt; removing outdated drugs
35. Maintain a safe and clean pharmacy by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
36. Oversee the acquisition and disbursement of drugs and medications from the centre stores to the pharmacy
37. Maintain and establish good methods of drug storage
38. Enter information of clients prescription into the Pharmacy system
39. Do record keeping and monthly stock counts
40. Support pharmacological services by stocking, assembling, and distributing medications
41. Maintain proper storage and security conditions for drugs.
42. Inspect and receive pharmaceutical products from suppliers
43. Make proper storage of pharmaceutical products
44. Enforce the use of pharmacy control and monitoring systems
45. Prepare and submit periodic reports on pharmaceutical services
46. Report all drug adverse events.
47. Conduct a monthly physical stock count
48. Generate and submit monthly and bimonthly ARV order report.
49. Support and mentor PHFs on drug ordering and reporting.
50. Mentor PHFs on how to handle expiries and how to minimize losses due to expiry
51. Mentor PHFs on national disposing of drugs
52. Ensure use of pharmacy MOH tools in PHFs e.g. dispensing log
53. Ensure accurate and timely reporting
54. Minimizing stock outs

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE 
Minimum Academic Qualifications
Diploma in Pharmacy Technology
Minimum Experience and Exposure
Three (3) years in a dispensing
Special Knowledge
1. Knowledge of drugs and their indications, contraindications, dosing, side effects, and proper administration
2. Knowledge of patient care charts and patient histories
3. Knowledge of policies and regulations pertaining to the disbursement of pharmaceutical drugs.
4. Computer knowledge
Key Skills
