About this Job:

Rakai Health Sciences Program is a collaborative Bio- medical Service Delivery. It strives to improve the quality of life of the local population through a combination of community-based research, curative services and prevention strategies in the district of Rakai, South Western Uganda. It is based at the Uganda Virus Research Institute-Entebbe and Kalisizo in Rakai District.

The program is seeking to strengthen its staffing position in order to efficiently execute its research activities.  Applications are therefore invited from qualified and competent Ugandans to fill vacant positions based at Rakai Health Sciences Program-KALISIZO, RAKAI DISTRICT as indicated below:

JOB TITLE: Medical Officer (1 Position)

Reporting to:  Head of Department

Main purpose:      

Medical Officers will be required to perform Clinical and Biomedical Research tasks and will also be involved in management of patients in the RHSP’s Clinics and other Program activities.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Clinical evaluation and care of participants in consultation with study physicians.
  • Carrying out respondents’ clinical assessment, completing clinical report forms and providing treatment as appropriate.
  • Provision of health education to potential study participants.
  • Seeking informed consent from potential study participants
  • Collection of quantitative and qualitative data by use of  questionnaire
  • Collection of biological samples for laboratory testing and analysis
  • Carry-out a census of study participants in study communities
  • Follow up study participants
  • Work with other staff in a team to carry-out HIV  counselling and testing (HCT)
Requirement:

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:     

  • MB.chB degree from a recognized University and must  have completed internship.
  • Registered with the Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners’ Council.
  • Experience with provision of Anti-Retro Viral Therapy (ART) and Computer knowledge is an added advantage.
  • Fluency in both Luganda and English languages.
  • Pleasant, social, hardworking, with good interpersonal  skills and spirit of team work/building.
  • Willingness to work and reside in a rural setting – Rakai District.
  • Willingness to work for longer hours.
