Rakai Health Sciences Program is a collaborative Bio- medical Service Delivery. It strives to improve the quality of life of the local population through a combination of community-based research, curative services and prevention strategies in the district of Rakai, South Western Uganda. It is based at the Uganda Virus Research Institute-Entebbe and Kalisizo in Rakai District.

The program is seeking to strengthen its staffing position in order to efficiently execute its research activities.  Applications are therefore invited from qualified and competent Ugandans to fill vacant positions based at Rakai Health Sciences Program-KALISIZO, RAKAI DISTRICT as indicated below:

Job title: Laboratory Technician (2 Positions)

Reports to: Lab Manager/Supervisor

Job responsibilities:

• Analytical work (research and clinical), problem solving, preparation of media/stock solutions, receipt and preparation of samples (accessioning), testing, shipping or transport to desired location and storage of samples.
• Maintain cleanliness of equipment and proper disposal of garbage/waste.
• Responsible to correctly record data and results manually or in a computer database for all testing results before dispatch to the data department.
• Troubleshooting and clarifying inconsistencies in laboratory testing or data reported
• Preparing and packing equipment for field teams and hubs when necessary.
• Assisting in the preventive and general maintenance of the laboratory equipment under one’s charge and oversight of these records.
• Assist the senior laboratory staff maintain/edit/revise standard operating procedure manuals for ongoing and new laboratory procedures and protocols; write new procedures when assigned.
• Participate in required competency and proficiency testing programs.

Person specifications:

• Diploma in a laboratory science field,
• at least 2 years experience in a medical laboratory field in a multi departmental setting,
• Computer skills ,
• Good communication skills.
•  High level of attention to details.
